A black wool skirt from Robe de Chambre Comme des Garçons, dated 1995, defined by an unusual manipulation of volume through the lower half of the garment. The silhouette remains relatively narrow from the waist through the upper body before expanding dramatically toward the hem, where large strategically placed darts draw the wool inward and outward to create a rounded, sculptural shape.

Rather than relying on added panels or embellishment, the skirt develops its volume directly through the pattern cutting and dart construction. The resulting folds create a natural draping effect around the lower body while allowing the 100% wool fabrication to hold the exaggerated shape. Produced in Japan, the piece reflects the experimentation with proportion and construction found throughout Comme des Garçons’ diffusion lines during the 1990s.
