US Army Women's Rain Hood (1975)

US Army Women's Rain Hood (1975)

An unusual piece of Vietnam-era US Army military equipment, this women's rain hood was issued alongside a raincoat and designed specifically to protect the head from the elements. Its simple construction is defined by two main triangular panels, a visor, and two folded sections that accommodate the shape of the head, creating a functional form from a minimal number of components.

Made from a cotton-polyester blend, the hood reflects the straightforward construction and utilitarian materials characteristic of military rainwear from the period. Although examples of the same model exist in slightly different fabrics due to production across different factories, the lighter-coloured example pictured here is the one available for purchase. A raincoat tag is included for reference and is not attached to the garment.
